At Camp Kama`aina Kids, children will have the opportunity to build friendships, learn new skills, and create experiences that will last a lifetime! Day Camp program includes: swimming, sailing, kayaking, camping, weekly excursions, Simple Science, singing, dancing and more!

Kama‘aina Kids day camps are a safe and exciting adventure for children in grades K-6. Our core curriculum focuses on developing critical 21st century skills—such as communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking—through fun, unique and hands-on activities.

Learning to swim is important for a Kama‘aina Kid. Progressive learn-to-swim lessons will be provided each week at various pools or enclosed beaches around our communities. Instructions are led by experienced and certified staff, and assisted by our day camp counselors. Classes are approximately 20-25 minutes in length, and followed up with supervised free-swim. Campers will be divided into 3 different levels of ability: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. At the start of summer, or upon their first visit to the pool, campers will be swim-tested and assigned to one of the 3 levels. It is possible for a child to move to a new group over the course of summer provided that his or her ability shows improvement. Staff to camper ratio 1:10.

Staff to camper ratio 1:10.

Waterfront - Kayaking and Sailing

With the naturally beautiful settings of Kaneohe Bay as their classroom, campers will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of kayaking and sailing. Led by our waterfront staff and assisted by our lifeguard certified counselors, waterfront visits will focus on the basics of water safety, paddling, and introductory sailing techniques. All participants are required to wear life jackets and covered shoes in order to participate. In order to participate in waterfront activities, a camper must also pass a basic swim test on his or her first visit to the waterfront program. The waterfront swim test is for a child to demonstrate complete comfort in the water while wearing a PFD (Personal Floatation Device), and not necessarily focused on swimming ability because of the PFD requirement. Staff to camper ratio for kayaking 1:7; sailing is 1:6.

Since the waterfront program is part of our designated camp activities, all children who meet the minimum swimming requirements are strongly encouraged to participate. If a camper does not qualify to participate in the waterfront program or chooses not to go, then on-shore activities will be provided for that day.

Overnight Camping for Grades 3-6

Camp Unplugged is an overnight experience at Malaekahana Beach Campgrounds, built for campers, who have completed Grades 3 – 6. This overnight experience is intended to provide children with a full slate of enriching, outdoor activities, and an opportunity to spend a night away from home, in a safe and structured environment that is completely removed from plugged-in technology. Camp out includes nutritious meals (dinner the first night, breakfast and lunch the next day) and a variety of camp activities, such as team-building initiatives, sand-crab hunt, nature walks, archery, swimming and campfire!!

The 1-night camp out is also an excellent opportunity for children to strengthen their sense of independence, bond with their peers, and form new friendships with campers from other locations. Staff to student ratio is 1:10, and will be a collaboration of day camp staff and Kama`aina Kids program staff from Malaekahana.  All staff have passed a State Criminal Background Check, FBI clearance and a DHS/CPS background check to ensure that they do not pose a risk to program participants. Additionally, all staff have been trained in basic first aid and CPR, with American Red Cross Lifeguard certified staff on hand, during aquatic activities.

Culminating Event

In what has now become one of our favorite traditions, all day camps will participate in our Culminating Event at Wet 'N' Wild Hawaii on August 1, 2018 (week 10). It is a time to celebrate the friendships and memories that have been forged because of Camp Kamaàina Kids, with creative performances and Hawaii's coolest water rides.

Day campers will have the opportunity to discover more about our unique, island home through weekly excursions. Each excursion is intended to provide a safe, fun and hands-on experience, and encourage young campers to stop, look and listen.

As an accredited member of the American Camp Association, Kama'aina Kids is committed to the highest operating standards in the camp industry. The ACA seal is recognized across the world as a symbol of quality programming, high safety standards, and a team of professionals dedicated to giving each child a "World of Good."
