As a leading Childcare Provider, Kama’aina Kids’ ongoing Education and Enrichment Programs serves over 12,000 children and families with Dedication, Safety and Innovation.

History

Established in 1987 by Ray Sanborn and Mark Nishiyama, Kama'aina Kids started with 45 children in a single program. On April 1, 1993, Kama'aina Kids and Hawaii Child Centers merged to form one of the largest child care organization in Hawaii. Kama'aina Kids presently serves 4,000 children in Preschool, School-Age, Environmental Education, Hotels, and Summer Camp Programs.

Licensing Requirements

Kama`aina Kids Preschool Division is licensed by the Department of Human Services. The School Age division is exempt from licensing requirements set by the Department of Human Services since it is a "multi-service" organization. However, Kama`aina Kids will comply with all material (health and safety) requirements including: (i) the hiring of qualified personnel; (ii) meeting the health, nutritional, first aid, and medical clearance requirements; (iii) meeting all insurance requirements; (iv) meeting all drop-in care and regular care requirements; (v) complying with applicable transportation regulations, excursions, and swimming regulations; and (vi) complying with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

Accreditation and Memberships

To assure the highest quality standards set by the industry for safety, programming, and staffing, Kama`aina Kids is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the American Camping Association (ACA). We are members of the National Afterschool Association (NAA), and the Hawai`i Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB).

Programs

Kama`aina Kids is made up of four divisions employing approximately 400 part-time and 140 full time employees and serving over 12,000 children and families. We are currently one of the largest child care providers in the State of Hawai`i.

  • Preschool
    Licensed by the State of Hawaii, our experienced staff provides early childhood education to families islandwide at our 16 Preschools. Our certified staff are trained to care for children 2 to 5 years old (younger in some locations). Also accredited by the NAEYC, we provide safe, nurturing and stimulating environments with a hands-on curriculum that promote children’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.
  • School Age
    Our School Age Division offers innovative quality care programs statewide for children grades K-6. Our After School Programs include 48 A+ Programs, 5 Private After School Programs & 16 Before School Care Programs where we provide a variety of enrichment activities including sports, crafts, drama, music, dance & aquatics. When school is out of session, we provide day camp programs that are accredited by the American Camping Association.
  • Hotel & Convention
    As leaders of childcare in Hawaii’s Hotel and Convention Industries, we have provided quality Hotel and Convention Childcare Programs since 1990. Our unique programs ensure special attention to safety, fun, education and professional staffing. Children engage in Hawaiian style activities and excursions to "must-see" visitor attractions that provide lifelong memories of their visit to Hawaii.
  • Camp Timberline
    We own and operate Oahu’s award winning, only mountain top camp facility. Our trained staff offer a variety of programs including Environmental Education, Team Challenge, High Ropes, Interpretive Hikes, Family Camps, Teen Scuba Camps and Adventure Trips. Camp Timberline is accredited by the American Camping Association, whose seal is recognized nationwide as a symbol for quality programs, safety & staffing.
  • Surf Camp Hawaii
    SURF CAMP HAWAII offers youth 10-16 the ultimate in summer surfing lessons on Oahu's world-famous NorthShore. Learn to surf in Hawaii from island born surf instructors and attend unique camping experiences in the islands.
